DEBORD, Guy.
La Société du spectacle. Paris, Buchet/Chastel, [1967]. In-8 [204 x 140] of 175 pp. paperback, in black half-maroquin folder and modern slipcase. First edition. Copy of the press service. A PRECIOUS COPY ABUNDANTLY ANNOTATED BY GUY DEBORD WHO HAS INDICATED AND IDENTIFIED THE AUTHORS HE HAS QUOTED OR DIVERTED FOR ANTONIO UBIENA, IN VIEW OF A TRANSLATION OF THE WORK INTO SPANISH. Some notes indicate the title of the work from which the quotation is taken. Seventy-one of the two hundred and twenty-one paragraphs are annotated in this way. The author offered this copy to Antonio Ubiena, who wrote this note on the title in red pen: "From Guy, Antonio Ubiena, Paris, 1/12/67." A member of the organization Accion Comunista, Ubiena met Guy Debord through Raoul Vaneigem. He was to give a Spanish translation of the work, but, expelled from France in 1968, he could not complete the project. The first Spanish translation, by Jorge Diamant, was not published until 1974. This copy is enriched with an autograph manuscript by Antonio Ubienna (1 page in-4, dated April 2, 2002), in Spanish, in which he relates his meeting with Guy Debord and the project of translating the book. A typed version in French is attached. Some foxing on the cover.
