GIDE, André.
André Walter (second notebook). Without place or date [1890]. Autograph manuscript of 136 pp. in-12 [174 x 110] : paperback, green percaline cover decorated with cold patterns, red edges, in a dark blue morocco flat back folder and modern case. Precious autograph manuscript of the Cahier noir, second part of the Cahiers d'André Walter, first book of André Gide. A largely autobiographical work, the Cahiers d'André Walter takes the form of a diary kept by a young man of twenty, from April to November 1889. The first part, called the White Notebook, is followed by the Black Notebook, which gives an almost daily account of the period from the end of June to the end of November. Written in black and violet ink on lined paper, the manuscript is undated. It is a clean-up, including the text as printed in 1891, with notes and quotations chosen by the author. It contains almost no erasures and was certainly intended for printing. The first leaf with the title is detached. Cracking at one hinge of the folder, some wear and tear on the spine.
