GIONO, Jean.
Précisions. Paris, Bernard Grasset, [1939]. In-12 [192 x 142] of 58 pp, (3) ff, the last one blank : paperback, in green half cloth folder and slipcase. First edition published in January 1939. "Giono's only pamphlet, according to P. Citron, is linked to the immediate political news: the author intends to clarify and justify his positions during the recent Sudeten crisis, which led to the Munich agreements (September 29-30, 1938). He showed himself to be more than ever in favor of peace at all costs, and denounced in vehement terms, first Romain Rolland and Paul Langevin, traitors to the pacifist cause for having called on the French government to take "energetic measures" in the face of Hitler, then Daladier and the political power, who persisted in maintaining the myth of heroic sacrifice by their "beautiful phrases", finally the "communist literati", who diverted youth from the pacifist struggle" (D. Labouret, Dictionnaire Giono, p. 752). One of the first 26 numbered copies on japon impérial (n° 6). Spine detached. Case damaged.
