GOURMONT, Remy de.
Letters to the Amazon. Paris, Georges Crès et Cie, Les Maîtres du livre, 1914. In-18 [193 x 132] with a frontispiece, (4) ff. the first 2 blank, 360 pp. and (2) ff. the last blank: paperback, filled cover, in a blue half cloth folder and a posterior case. First edition: illustrated with a two-tone woodcut frontispiece by Pierre-Eugène Vibert, and various black ornaments. Natalie Clifford Barney was the Amazon of Remy de Gourmont (1858-1915). Met in 1910, she became his muse. A platonic love coupled with an ecstatic experience saved his last years, while he lived away from the social scene, affected by a lupus that had disfigured his face. One of the first 5 numbered copies on old imperial paper of Japan (n° 3). Beautiful copy preserved as issued.
