In-8 [204 x 140] of 386 pp, (1) f. : havana morocco, abstract black box composition on the boards, smooth spine, black box lining and endpapers, double endpapers hand-painted with black printing ink, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine preserved, havana morocco spine and overlapping bands folder, grey suede lined, case (M. de Bellefroid). First edition, dedicated to Marcel Arland. One of 19 copies on Lafuma vellum, not expurgated, the only deluxe edition (copy b, one of the 4 out of commerce). Account of the years of apprenticeship of Raymond Guérin (1905-1955) through the conscience of a disenchanted narrator. Beautiful mosaic binding by Micheline de Bellefroid. Provenance: Robert Moureau, with ex-libris (cat. I, 2003, n° 291). Attached an autograph letter signed by the author, of 3 1/2 pages in-8, dated April 29, 1948, addressed to Robert Moureau. Envelope kept.
