First American edition, published one year after the English original. First issue copy, justified "First edition M-G". Autograph signed on the first endpaper: For Paul Valéry // with gratitude // & admiration // Aldous Huxley // 1933 Aldous Huxley knew Paul Valéry around 1917, but did not meet him for the first time until January 1920 in the salon of Mrs. Mühlfeld. They had a personal and professional relationship, which became very friendly from the 1930s onwards when Huxley moved to France.
