In-12 [185 x 116] of 224 pp. bradel half-box red, smooth spine, untrimmed, double endpapers, cover preserved (modern binding). Rare first edition of the author's first novel: the cover is illustrated with a color composition by Gus Bofa. Talvart and Place (XII, pp. 357-358) note that "on the advice of Gus Bofa, [Mac Orlan] abandoned the brush for the pen. Before this first novel, "kind of bridge thrown between Ubu and Dada" (Nino Frank), Mac Orlan had published four erotic works for food purposes under his real name of Pierre Dumarchey. No edition on large paper. Autograph signed letter on the false title: To my friend André Salmon // these few pages of libertinage // excessively discreet, in the hope // to read it soon // with all my heart // Pierre Mac Orlan Pierre Mac Orlan (1882-1970) had been friends with André Salmon since the beginning of the century, who had given him, in 1908, his precarious lodging at the Bateau-Lavoir, without furniture or heating; a pile of old newspapers as a bed. Beautiful copy in modern binding. There were 10 copies on Hollande Provenance: André Salmon, with a letter from the author - Max Ph. Delatte, with bookplate.
