First edition. Novel of an impossible love between a young nun and a painter. Precious autograph letter signed on the false title: To Monsieur // Marcel Proust, // to you my // dear friend, // with all my // feelings of // great friendship, // affectionate // admiration // Anna // de Noailles One of the muses of the Belle Époque, Anna de Noailles (1876-1933) maintained a famous correspondence with Marcel Proust: they met perhaps in Amphion, on the shores of Lake Geneva, as early as 1893. Their friendship did not end until Proust's death, when he made her the model for Mme Gaspard de Réveillon in Jean Santeuil. On June 11, 1904, Marcel Proust sent her a long and enthusiastic letter after having read only twenty pages of Le Visage émerveillé, impatient to congratulate her: "Each step taken in this supernatural country filled me with such ecstasy that I wanted immediately before continuing to come to suspend my offering and to lay down my crown and to bless the great and powerful and wise spirit, the marvellous genius who unlocks for us the secret of all things [...]" .
