The Good Apostle. Paris, Éditions du Sagittaire, Simon Kra, .
In-16 [174 x 126] of 218 pp, (3) ff. the last 2 blank : blue morocco, decorated with 5 ivory buttons placed vertically in the center of the boards, smooth spine, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved, slipcase with blue morocco spine and bands (D. H. Mercher 1990).
First novel by Philippe Soupault (1897-1990), of autobiographical inspiration, of which Aragon will say: "I affirm that all the history of the novel, in our time, is obliged to take into account this novel."
Autograph letter signed on the first blank page : to Paul Éluard // for his collection // and for his friendship // Philippe Soupault // of the moonless // and hopeless days //
Nice provenance reuniting two of the pioneers of surrealism - Soupault being excluded from the movement in 1926 for "too much literature".
Beautiful copy in a curious binding by Daniel Henri Mercher.
