SUARÈS, André.
Here is the man. Paris, Bibliothèque de l'Occident, 1906. In-8 [248 x 161] of 444 pp, (2) ff : brown half-maroquin with corners, gilt fillets, spine gilt, cover and spine preserved (Devauchelle). First edition. Collection of maxims containing the constituent data of the author's drama. Many attempts were made to publish the work with publishers, including Charles Péguy. Beautiful autograph lettering signed : To // my dear Péguy - // in all confidence // Inter mortuos liber // SU. // May 4 // 1907 Remarkable provenance : Charles Péguy was one of the first editors of Suarès at Cahiers de la Quinzaine. They met thanks to Romain Rolland and maintained a friendly relationship which gave rise to an important correspondence. Suarès devoted an essay to Charles Péguy published in 1915, one year after the death of the latter. Due to a lack of resources, Suarès was only able to subscribe to the Cahiers de la Quinzaine in 1907, for the ninth series. Slight crack at the hinge of the first cover, spine very slightly faded.
