Antoine BLANC de SAINT-BONNET (1815 – 1880)
On the spiritual unity or Society and its purpose beyond time. Second edition. Paris, Langlois, 1845. Three volumes in-8 of (4) ff, XIX, 314 pp. ; (2) ff, pp. 315 - [984] ; (2) ff, pp. [985] - 1574, contemporary bindings in black chagrin, double framed with a cold scroll and three gilt borders on the boards, spine with nerves decorated in the same way, interior roulette, white embossed moire endpapers, gilt edges (Meslant). Second edition, revised and corrected by the author. With this work published in 1841 at the age of 26, Saint-Bonnet affirmed his method of reconciling reason and revelation. Victor Cousin was immediately enthusiastic about the young philosopher, who received the cross of the Legion of Honor from the hands of the Minister of Public Instruction in 1844. A very beautiful and precious copy, printed on wove paper, in a binding signed by Meslant with the crowned figure of Queen Marie-Amélie, wife of King Louis-Philippe. From the Daniel Sicklès library (X, 1991, n° 3844).
