In-16 square of XXXVI, 160 pp. in red morocco, gilded boards with interior corner motifs on the boards, smooth spine decorated with gilded fl eurons in a double frame of gilded boards, gilded boards and interior scrolls, untrimmed, pale green cover preserved (Stroobants). First edition, published in small number by Trébutien. One of the few copies on Hollande. To the two studies on Joseph de Maistre and Louis de Bonald published in L'Opinion publique in December 1849 and January 1850, Barbey has added here his article on Chateaubriand refused by the same newspaper, as well as an evocation of Lamennais, an introduction and an epilogue. The cover, of pale green tone, is here with the address of Caen, A. Hardel (printer of the volume). A nice copy.
