Jules BARBEY d’AUREVILLY (1808 – 1893)
The Pasha. Rhythme oublié. Caen, Imprimerie de F. Le Blanc-Hardel, 1869. In-16 square of 12 pp. in red morocco, three gilt leaves on the boards, spine ribbed with gilt leaves and fl eurons, untrimmed, gilt head, cover preserved, case (Canape R.D.). First edition, edited by Trébutien at 36 copies not put in the market. Beautiful edition printed in red and black, the last of the publications of Trébutien, who died in 1870. This is the third of the forgotten rhythms published by Barbey, after Laocoon and Les yeux caméléons. The writer had sent around 1854 to Trébutien this "poetry without rhythm [...] which seems to me a little too Rabelaisian to be part of our Rhythmes oubliés [...] but which (perhaps) will entertain you".
