PITRE - CHEVALIER (Pierre-Michel-François Chevalier, dit). PITRE - CHEVALIER (Pierre-Michel-François Chevalier, said). Ancient and modern Brittany and modern Brittany - Brittany and Vendée. History of the French Revolution in the West (complement of ancient and modern Brittany). Paris, Coquebert, s.d. (1844-45). Together two works in two large volumes in-8, half garnet morocco with corners, spine spines, not trimmed, illustrated covers and spines preserved (Mercier sr. de Cuzin). First editions. The illustration of these two beautiful publications which follow each other is composed of two frontispieces reproducing the coats of arms of the provinces, one printed in gold, the other in colors, a portrait of Chateaubriand after Girodet- Trioson in the first volume, three maps with colored outlines, 13 plates of coats of arms in colors, a plate of coins, 63 plates and about 400 woodcut vignettes in the text, mainly after Leleu, Penguilly and Tony Johannot. The title of La Bretagne ancienne et moderne is here addressed to Coquebert alone. The two very nice white illustrated general covers are preserved with their spines in in perfect condition and the copy has been enriched : - a delivery cover for La Bretagne ancienne et moderne ; - the very rare placement sheet of the engravings printed on pink paper for Bretagne and Vendée ; - the illustrated prospectus (4 pages) of Bretagne et Vendée. Interchange between the two volumes of the first two quires of each work. Faint marginal foxing to a few leaves at the beginning of the volumes.
