SARAZIN Jacques (1592-1660) in the taste.... - Lot 45 - Pierre Bergé & Associés
SARAZIN Jacques (1592-1660) in the taste. The children and the goat. Chased bronze sculpture with brown patina depicting three children playing with a dear sitting on a terrace. France. Late 18th century. H_18 cm H_13 cm. A similar group, also in patinated bronze and resting on a gilded bronze base, was part of Jean-Baptiste de Machault's collection at Château d'Arnouville (sale Paris, Sotheby's October 20, 2005, lot 158). It was modelled on Jacques Sarazin's famous marble depicting the Children with a Goat, in the collections of the Louvre Museum (fig. 1). This bronze was described in Machault's 1794 inventory as "a small bronze representing a goat and two children on gilded copper feet. 120 livres". Two similar groups of three children holding bunches of grapes in brown patina bronze are now in the Wallace Collection, London (inv. S. 211 and S. 212). Expert : Stéphane Pépe
