Léon DETROY (1857-1955) - Lot 239
Léon DETROY (1857-1955) The Bay of Agay (?) Oil on canvas signed lower right H_62 cm W_106 cm Two holes, frame very damaged. Léon Detroy was a French painter known for his luminous work and Mediterranean landscapes. From the 1900s, he moved to the South of France, where he discovered the richness of the local landscapes, particularly those of the Côte d'Azur, as illustrated by our painting. Influenced by Impressionism, Divisionism and Fauvism, his work is characterized by the subtle use of bright colors to capture the light and warmth of the South. Indeed, the gradations of pink, violet and blue are reminiscent of the work of Impressionist painters, particularly Claude Monet. Our painting depicts a coastline bathed in sunlight; Detroy's aim here is to highlight the wild beauty of the region through the use of light.
