Large tapestry panel from Felletin (Creuse region, near Aubusson) late 17th/early 18th century From Homer's Odyssey, from Greek mythology. Wool and silk. The banquet of King Alcinoos ("powerful spirit") and his wife, the goddess Arété: Homer recounts in the Odyssey a banquet given by Alcinoos, king of the Phaeacians, in the presence of his wife, his daughter Nausicaa and Ulysses. The latter had been taken in after being shipwrecked near the island. Alcinoos, having ordered the construction of a new ship, organizes a feast in honor of his guest.
