Alexandre-Évariste FRAGONARD (Grasse 1780-1850 Paris) Allegory of Thought - Allegory of Doubt Watercolors on graphite line, a pair. H_28 cm W_21.5 cm On the back, headed certificate from the Milon-Ferret framing house in Bordeaux, dated September 10, 1930: "The two watercolors La pensée and Le Doute were sold to me by the descendants of the Fragonards. It is part of the work of Alexandre Fragonard". Provenance: Remained in the artist's descendants until his great-grandson Jacques, who settled in Gironde in the 1920s. Acquired, most likely from the latter, by M.Milon-Ferret, framer in Bordeaux. Acquired from the latter by the current owner's grandfather Expert : Pierre-Antoine MARTENET
