MALLET FAMILY. Correspondence to Baroness Mallet. Clichy, Paris 1808-1809. 15 l.a.s. bifeuillet in-4, mostly addressed on verso. Important relationship between the Mallet children's tutor and their mother, Baroness Mallet née Anne-Julie Houël, (1761-1849), from a powerful family of shipowners in Le Havre, wife of Guillaume Mallet (1847-1826) Regent of the Banque de France. This relationship comes at a time when the baroness is taking her young children, James and Jules, on a trip through Italy, offering a precious testimony to pleasure travel in the Napoleonic era. Through the Mallet children's return, the tutor maintains a rich historical and literary correspondence, offering advice and recommendations for visiting Roman sites, and demonstrating the richness of Italian art. He also took the opportunity to give news of the family estate at Chougny, and to report on Napoleon and the progress of the Grande Armée.
