Entourage of Charles Joseph FLIPART (1721-1797) Woman at the Toilet Oil on canvas. H_43 cm W_55.5 cm Born in Paris and trained by his father, Charles-Joseph Flipart saw his career change following his meeting with Jacopo Amigoni, who encouraged him to move to Venice in the 1740s. There, Flipart worked with the engraver Joseph Wagner and was influenced by Longhi. It seems that he followed Amigoni all the way to Spain, where he eventually established himself at Court after the death of his mentor. His talents earned him high responsibilities. For a time, he directed the Royal Tapestry Factory, before becoming a professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Our painting is to be compared with a composition by Charles Joseph Flipart known through painting and engraving. Entitled "La toilette de la courtisane", the canvas is preserved in the Mimara Museum in Zagreb (Croatia).
