A Turkish painter, Nuri Iyem is a prominent figure in 20th-century Turkish painting. After an academic training, his work evolved toward a synthesis of figuration and abstraction, but he remains best known for his expressive portraits of women with a melancholic gaze and posture, imbued with emotional depth, as suggested by the work we are presenting.
