Poignard, Katar, entièrement damasquiné d'or (koftgari), Inde XIXe siècle. An Indian gold-damascened katar, 19th century. With double-edged triangular blade of watered steel, formed with a medial ridge chiselled and gilt with a lotus bud at the base and extending to a reinforced point, russet-iron hilt of characteristic type, with side-bars concave along the outer sides and joined by a pair of swelling bars forming the grip, decorated over its full surfaces with gold-damascened panels of border ornament, including a trellis arrangement of small expanded flowerheads over the sides, larger flowerheads on the grip and a chevron pattern at the base, and the hilt preserved in fine condition.
