En anglais, traduction jointe. Wells répond aux questions de son correspondant, l'écrivain et critique littéraire Huntley Carter : Pour ce qui est de Travaillistes, ceux-ci semblent suivre les doléances de quelque idiot, comme Fenner Brockway (1888-1988, journaliste chrétien pacifiste, président de l'Independant Labour Party) ou Ramsay Macdonald (1866-1937, homme politique d'origine humble, il sera en 1924 le premier Premier ministre travailliste) et compagnie. Puis il continue : « ... Labour will be sticking to points of order. Labour will be unaware that there is an economic problem. Labour will be sheep in a narrow road...1b) Capital will be scrambling back towards the old conditions in a stupid instinctive way under cover of an irish row...1c) Nonsense ! Do you mean Economic ? 2a. 2 b. 2c. = Think hard. But this is utopian... ».
