RARE PARAVENT À SIX FEUILLES EN LAQUE DE COROMANDEL À FOND IVOIRE CHINE, DYNASTIE QING, ÉPOQUE KANGXI, DATÉ 1684 AN INSCRIBED AND DATED SIXPANEL COROMANDEL LACQUER SCREEN, QING DYNASTY, KANGXI PERIOD, DATED 1684 magnifiquement sculpte d'un cote d'un couple de daims tachetes, de prunus en fleurs, de bambous et de pins noueux sur un fond couleur ivoire, l'un des panneaux agremente d'un poeme et date de la 22e annee du regne de Kangxi, correspondant a l'annee 1684, l'arriere non decore 204 x 53 cm; 80 3/8x 20 7/8 in. (chaque panneau) (2) boldly carved on one side with a pair of deer resting in an idyllic landscape setting next to elaborate rockwork and surrounded by flowering prunus, bamboo and pine trees on a monochromatic ivory background, one panel with a poetic inscription dated to the 22nd year of Kangxi corresponding to 1684, the reverse not carved PROVENANCE Compagnie Francaise l'Orient et de la Chine, Paris, avant 2010 (by repute). Ce paravent en coromandel est particulierement remarquable car il represente un couple de daims tachetes, magnifiquement incise avec un pelage brun tachete de blanc, ce qui represente un voeu d'anniversaire de longevite. Cette composition se retrouve egalement sur un paravent au musee d'art de Philadelphie, illustre par Wilfried de Kessel et Greet Dhont, Coromandel Lacquer Screens, Brussels, 2002, ill. 41. On peut rapprocher egalement son decor d'un paravent a huit panneaux en laque de coromandel sur fond noir, XVIIIE siecle, vendu chez Sotheby's, New York, les 28/ 29 decembre 1989, lot 337. A comparer aussi avec un superbe paravent de coromandel a 12 panneaux avec deux daims vendu chez Sotheby's New York, le 14 septembre 2011, lot 145. The present screen is especially striking for its central depiction of a pair of spotted deer, superbly incised with brown fur and white spot markings, presenting a birthday wish of longevity.
