Ecrivain et traducteur anglais, second fils d'Oscar Wilde et de constance Lloyd 3 lettres autographes signées, 5½ pages in-8 ou in-4; Klosters, Londres, années 1929 à 1933. Une enveloppe. Pièces jointes. Très intéressantes missives relatives aux traductions anglaises de textes de Green et notammet LÉVIATHAN et LE VISIONNAIRE. Demandes d'explications à propos de certains passages des textes qu'il traduit et dont il n'arrive pas à saisir le sens ou les nuances. «... I am delighted to have been allowed to translate Leviathan which I really consider to be a masterly piece of work. I only hope that I shall be able to do it justice... the typescript is quite clear enough. The mistakes are mostly obvious ones. There appears to be some confusion at the beginning as to whether the Restaurant Loude is at Lorges or Chanteilles... I think that the distance between the two towns is a little vague. At the beginning Guéret suggest taking Angèle into C. from L. by train, suggesting that it is at some distance, yet Angèle can carry a heavy... basket from L. to C. later on...», etc. On joint: 1) Longue et intéressante lettre autographe signée de Merlin Holland, petit fils et biographe de Oscar Wilde, adressée à Julien Green, à propos du journal que tenait son père Vyvyan, et de sa mère qui associait la France à Paris «... with all kinds of unspecified naughtinesses. I remember on one occasion she went through my fathers books and took out all those which had French titles. She summoned me to her flat and asked whether any of them were ?dirty'.
