Bonami, ed., Rudolf Stingel, Chicago, 2007, PP.140-141 (reproduit en couleurs) et p.135 (vue in situ in Paula Cooper Gallery) Rudolf Stingel "Here in this museum the space is actually not a cube, but I'm examining the shell nevertheless, as it is for me the contrivance for my work. I'm demonstrating that using different surfaces we can produce diverse environments. The white cube is our fiction of neutrality. But it is of course modernism's abstract space that should obliterate all disturbing sounds and isolate each object". Rudolf Stingel "Stingel's work is part of the legacy of minimalism's theatrical phenomenology and does not belong to the recent return of its repressed other-representational painting. Stingel's mirrored floor both reframes the gallery space and obscures its boundaries, questionning as minimalism did, the given relationship between wall and floor. Stingel throws the right-angled logic of solid horizontal and vertical planes into confusion, but retains the horizon line that confirms the space as being theatrical, in the sence that Michael Fried understood minimalist sculpture rather than expressionistic".
