Paul Eluard.
Full song. Paris, Gallimard, 1939. In-4, paperback. Original edition : it is illustrated with 4 original lithographs out of text by Max Ernst. Separate edition of 20 illustrated and numbered copies : one of the 15 vergé d'Arches, signed by the poet and the painter (#17). Max Ernst had planned a series of twelve lithographs, but only four of them were published in the deluxe edition in small numbers. A year earlier, in 1938, disapproving of his Trotskyist positions, Éluard had broken with Breton: "Following him, Max Ernst left the surrealist group outraged at having to endure the demand to "sabotage Paul Éluard's poetry by all means". (Centre Georges Pompidou, Paul Éluard et ses amis peintres, 1982, p.109). Copy preserved as published, in perfect condition.
