André BRETON.
Le Revolver à cheveux blancs. Paris, Imprimerie de l'Union, 1932.
Corrected proofs of 188 leaves in-8, in sheets, modern black half-maroquin jacket.
Complete set of corrected proofs of this poetic collection published in June 1932 by Les Cahiers libres: it contains about a hundred autograph corrections as well as typographical annotations by a second hand.
Eight poems appearing between Noeud des miroirs and Le Grand Secours meurtrier as well as the table are presented in a double set, the second incorporating the corrections of the first.
A pivotal work, Le Revolver à cheveux blancs brings together 54 poems, 17 of which are previously unpublished, preceded by the introductory text:
Il y aura une fois.
It brings to a close a nine-year period devoted by Breton exclusively to the theoretical and political positioning of Surrealism.
Two printing tests are included, one for the cover, printed on a sheet of in-16 paper, the second for the headband printed in green on a crystal paper folder bearing the motto "The subject of this book is a mobile being. In addition to Breton's work, this banner was to adorn two jointly published Surrealist collections - Eluard's La Vie immédiate and Tzara's Où boivent les loups.
The leaves were formerly mounted on a blue paper spine.
