Kristians TONNY.
Untitled: Study Sheet. 1928. Original drawing signed and dated lower right, brown ink on paper (47 x 61.5 cm). Superb original drawing by Kristians Tonny executed in 1928. Dutch-born surrealist painter and draughtsman Tonny Kristians alias Kristians Tonny (1907-1977) followed his parents to Paris in 1913. Encouraged by his father and by Jules Pascin, whose influence he underwent, he exhibited his drawings very early. In 1925, the Pierre gallery exhibited him with Louis Marcoussis and, in March 1928, Jeanne Bucher organised a personal exhibition for him. A little-known figure in the surrealist movement, his works are rare, especially those from before the war. Tonny was exhibited in 1926-1927 at the Aux quatre chemins gallery with Borès, Bosschère, Gomez de la Serna and Miró. Provenance: - Galerie Pierre, Paris; - Former Henriette and André Gomès collection.
