Large in-8, long-grained aubergine half-maroquin with corners, spine elegantly decorated in long gilt irons, untrimmed (Mercier sr de Cuzin)). First edition. Portrait of Fénelon engraved on steel by Lefèvre, 20 wood-engraved plates printed on chine appliqué, and 150 vignettes in the text by Tony Johannot, Emile Signol, Gérard Séguin, Wattier, Marckl, Daubigny, Français and Marville, and a facsimile of an autograph One of the very few copies printed on China paper, bound in pamphlet, in superb condition. The hors texte are on chine appliqué, as they should be. From the library of Georges Lainé (1962, n° 6), with bookplate.
