The wonderful and touching adventures of Prince Chenevis and his young sister. Vignettes by Bertall. Paris, Hetzel, 1846. Small in-8, navy blue long-grained morocco, triple framed with two gilt fillets, one with corner fleurons on the boards, ornate ribbed spine, gilt fillets inside, gilt edges on witnesses, illustrated cover preserved, slipcase (Mercier, sr de son père, 1914). First edition. Frontispiece by Lavieille and woodcut vignettes by Bertall in the text. Published as part of the Nouveau magasin des enfants collection (see also catalogue nos. 123, 141 and 218). A precious copy on strong vellum paper, cited by Carteret, enriched with 72 woodcuts (out of 92 illustrations) printed on China paper, one of which is annotated at length in pencil by Bertall with his signature.
