Complete works with unpublished letters, variants, index, facsimile. Biographical note by his brother. Edition dedicated to the poet's friends. Paris, Charpentier, 1865-66. Ten large volumes in-8, half havana morocco with corners, spines decorated, gilt heads, untrimmed, green printed covers and spines preserved (V. Champs). First edition of the complete works, called "des amis du poète", printed on fine Holland laid paper and illustrated in the first edition with a portrait-frontispiece of Musset engraved on steel by Flameng after Landelle and 28 plates out of text engraved on steel after Bida's drawings. The plates are printed before the letter on mounted chine and are protected by a lilac silk paper bearing the legend. A very fine copy enriched in volume I with an original pencil drawing on tracing paper, titled La coupe et les lèvres, two handwritten leaves in black ink, paginated from 1 to 4, and a charming unsigned watercolour on the false title of Les Marrons du feu. Complete with the cartoons mentioned by Carteret and Vicaire in volumes III, IV, V and VIII.
