NORVINS (Jacques Marquet de Montbreton, baron de).
History of Napoleon. Vignettes by Raffet. Paris, Furne et Cie, 1839. Large in-8, contemporary binding in empire green half-chagrin with corners, spine ribbed and decorated with imperial attributes gilt in the boxes within a gilt fillet and a cold scroll, edges gilt (Simier, R. du Roi). First edition. Steel-engraved frontispiece by Burdet and 80 wood-engraved hors texte compositions, all after Raffet; numerous vignettes in the text. Same edition, same print run as the previous issue. A fine and very rare copy preserved without any foxing in a beautiful binding signed by a great workshop of the time. Adolphe Simier had succeeded his father René, who died in 1837, retaining the title of Bookbinder to the King. Without the rare unpaginated leaf of Avis au relieur, mostly absent.
