London, Bradbury & Evans, Chapman & Hall, 1850-1867. 18 separately paginated issues, bound in 2 volumes, red half-maroquin with corners, ornate ribbed spines, untrimmed, gilt-edged heads, blue paper printed issue covers retained (Launder & Macdonald N.Y.). First edition of the Christmas Tales published by Dickens in his magazines Houshold Words and All the Year Round. The collection gathers the 18 "Christmas Numbers" in two volumes, with general printed titles. It includes: A Christmas Tree, What Christmas is, as we Grow older, etc., A Round of Stories by the Christmas Fire, The Seven Poor Travellers, The Holly Tree Inn, The Wreck of the Golden Mary, The Perils of Certain English Prisoners, A House to let, The Haunted House, A message from the Sea, Tom Tiddler's Ground, Somebody's Luggage, Mrs. Lirriper's Lodgings, Mrs. Lirriper's Legacy, Doctor Marigold's Prescriptions, Mugby Junction, No Thoroughfare. From the year 1863 on, the issues have two cover pages. The year 1864 contains two advertising sheets printed on blue paper. Nice copy, in late 19th century English binding. It belonged to William Glyde Wilkins (ex-libris). Director of an architectural and engineering company in Pittsburgh, he was the author of Charles Dickens in America, published in 1911.- Clara B. and Edward C. Daoust, with bookplate. Two corners crushed.
