Classical taste, too often confused with a taste for the old, suffers from relative disavowal today, despite being heir to the models received from Greek antiquity and the Italian Renaissance, and perpetuating Europe's vernacular taste. While it is not exclusive to the modernist and progressive epic, and everyone has their own definition, for Pierre Bergé & associés, it is a timeless taste. It is characterized by the use of rich, natural materials (alabaster, porcelain, bronzes), rare stones and the perpetuation of models formalized by Vitruvius and constantly enriched by Michelangelo, who was already practicing "license within the rule".
Homogeneity and variety are the characteristics of this taste, which is the subject of a relative market disaffection. This is why, if its pecuniary value is now much lower than its market value - for a pair of Louis XV armchairs, a 17th century portrait, a spectacular Napoleon III chest of drawers - it now seems necessary for Pierre Bergé & associés to create a gathering, a three-monthly vacation offering every collector the chance to immerse themselves in an atmosphere, that of great classical taste.
