Osvaldo BORSANI (1911-1985) - Lot 73
Osvaldo BORSANI (1911-1985) Large rosewood and chrome metal table Tecno Edition About 1970 H_75 cm L_287 cm P_95 cm A large table by Osvaldo Borsani in rosewood and chromed metal made by Tecno Internationally recognized by his contemporaries as a pioneer of American Design in the 1950-1960s, Paul McCobb (1917-1969) was able to establish himself in the creation of a new art of living. Five-time winner of the MoMas'Good Design Award (probably the oldest design award for excellence, created in 1950 in Chicago with the support of the renowned Charles and Ray Eames, Russel Wright, George Nelson and Eero Saarinen), Paul McCobb is also one of the few designers of his generation to have launched a brand in his name, including furniture, accessories and textiles. Professor of design at the University of Arts in Philadelphia, journalist and consultant, he moved to New York at the end of the Second World War, where he designed furniture, textiles and decorative mosaic objects. He made his name in 1948 when he launched his furniture line called "Planner Group". This collection is conceived as a response to the desires of the time: simplicity, refinement and modulation. It creates a unique modular system, allowing the individualization of interiors and using noble materials, slender lines and sculptural forms. Its sophisticated and functional minimalism seduces the most modern interiors by offering a playful interpretation of traditional forms with Scandinavian craftsmanship.
