collection Exhibition: Galerie Claude Bernard, "Sam Szafran: Pastels", October - November 1980, n° XX (illustrated in colours in the exhibition catalogue) "I have a perspective that is closer to the Arabic perspective, based on the oval of the eye, than on the traditional geometric perspective, which is characterized by a horizon line and vanishing points".
"There is always a feeling of imbalance in what I do" "One evening, I was working on this staircase - I have always lived on the stairs - and I had fallen asleep. It was dark. And I had a nightmare. I woke up. It was the full moon, and there was a shadow cast from the window on the steps of the stairs. I saw it all at once. I had passed it a thousand times without seeing it, and suddenly I saw it. So I decided to draw it. But it was moving every three minutes... The Earth is turning... There was the light here, cut out, and everything else was in the dark. I would draw until everything fell into the dark, using a flashlight. At one point, everything that was very dark became very bright, and everything that was very bright became very dark. So, in order to be able to do the whole thing, I started moving."
