RAVENEAU DE LUSSAN. Diary of the trip made to the South Sea with the freebooters of America. Paris, Le Febvre, 1705. In-12 of 6 preliminary leaves (4 of which are erroneously bound at the end of the book and in disorder), 443, (1) pp. contemporary binding in speckled calf, decorated spine, red edges. One of the great classics on piracy, published for the first time in 1689 and joined to the editions of Oexmelin from 1699. Raveneau de Lussan, from a small but indebted noble family, sought his fortune in the West Indies and practised sea racing in the years 1660-1680. In addition to the adventures of privateers and buccaneers, there are curious details about Turtle Island and the coast of Santo Domingo. "A most entertaining work (Maggs). Three slightly disbound notebooks. Sabin, 67985; Leclerc (1867), 1241, 1704 edition.
