LAVOISIER (Antoine-Laurent de). - Lot 177
LAVOISIER (Antoine-Laurent de). Works, published by His Excellency the Minister of Public Instruction and Religious Affairs. Paris, Imprimerie Impériale, 1864-68, four volumes; Imprimerie Nationale, 1891-93, two volumes. Together six volumes in-4 of a portrait, (2) ff, XI, 728 pp., an unfolding table, 16 pl.; (2) ff, 828 pp., 8 pl.; (2) ff, 795 pp., 12 pl.; (2) ff, 775 pp., 4 pl.; (2) ff, IV, 749 pp., 12 pl.; (2) ff, IV, 717 pp., 2 pl., bradel demibasane bleue moderne. First collective edition, published at the expense of the State. Portrait, 54 folding plates out of text and a folding table. It took fifty years to complete this project, which was started in 1843 and directed successively by J. B. A. Dumas, President of the Academy of Sciences, and then by Lavoisier's bibliographer Edouard Grimaux. The edition, given as much as possible on the original manuscripts, contains many unpublished pieces, especially among the early works, such as the works in geology and mineralogy carried out under the direction of Guettard. Other texts present a different version from the one printed at the time, thus providing evidence of the evolution of the author's ideas, particularly in politics and economics. All of this makes it possible to realize the extent of the fields Lavoisier was confronted with, notably through the Academy of Sciences. Repeated stamp of the Thiers Foundation. Excellent copy, in perfect condition. Past backs.
