MASSAC (Pierre-Louis de). - Lot 191
MASSAC (Pierre-Louis de). Collection of economic instructions. Second edition, corrected and expanded. Paris, M. de Massac, brother of the Author, 1779. In-8 of VI, 218, (2), 4 plates, contemporary marbled basane binding, spine decorated in the grotesque style, marbled edges. Reunion of two memoirs, already published separately in 1766 and 1767, by Pierre-Louis- Raymond de Massac, member of the Academy of Sciences of Toulouse and of the Agricultural Society of Limoges. Four plates engraved out of text. Like many owners and notables at the end of the old regime, the lawyer was Massac, receiver general of the king's farms, concerned himself with rural economy. In addition to the two works gathered here and published after his death by his brother, he is the author of a Discourse and Memoirs on Agriculture (Paris, 1763), in which he pleads for the creation of agricultural offices in order to advance this branch, "the most useful to the national economy". The Dissertation on the Quality and Use of Fertilizers is a complete treatise on fertilizers based on the experiments conducted by Massac or reported to him. The second text is a Memoir on the way to govern bees. Nice copy, elegantly bound. Epidermis on the second plate, slit at the bottom of a bit.
