CHEVREUL (Eugène). - Lot 206
CHEVREUL (Eugène). General considerations on organic analysis and its applications. Paris, Levrault, 1824 - BERZELIUS (Johan Jacob). On the analysis of inorganic bodies. Translated from the German. Paris, Méquignon-Marvis, July 1827 - An off-text plate. Together two books in one volume in-8 of (3) ff, 254 pp (out of 256, a false title is missing); (2) ff, IV, 232 pp, one pl., 19th century binding in half calf, decorated spine, spandrels with gilt edges. First edition of Chevreul's second work in organic chemistry. Lithographed portrait of Chevreul in 1886 on double page added and mitered at the head of the first work, one plate without text. In this text, published one year after the Research on Fatty Bodies of Animal Origin, Chevreul, generalizing his subject, exposes the fruit of ten years of reflection on research in organic chemistry and lays the foundations of methodology in this field. He rigorously defines the procedure to be followed to isolate the immediate principles and to define their characteristics. Good copy despite a few freckles. White streaks on the binding.
