CAMBRAY-DIGNY (Louis-Guillaume de). - Lot 230
CAMBRAY-DIGNY (Louis-Guillaume de). Description of a Fire Machine, built for the Castiglione Saltworks. Parma, Ph. Carmignani, 1766. In-4 of (3) ff, 183 pp., (1) ff, 10 p., 6 tables, contemporary calf binding, gilt filets on covers with corner finials, decorated spine, gilt edges. First edition. 10 off-text plates and 6 tables. Italy owes to Cambray-Digny the plan and construction of the first fire engine, intended to bring the waters of the sea into the saltworks of Castiglione. "What is most curious to see in Castiglione is a fire engine in the taste of those of London and Flanders, which Mr. Digny perfected and had built.... "A fine copy from La Rochefoucauld, with the stamp of the library of La Roche-Guyon on the title. Minimal binding damage.
