Professor of Philosophy, Mathematics and Astronomy at the University of Leiden, he carried out important experiments on gravity, mechanics, electricity, hydraulics, optics, celestial mechanics, etc.... One of these, known as the Leiden experiment, gave birth to the capacitor.
