Original edition: Dalí's frontispiece. Only the 10 copies on mother-of-pearl japanese are decorated with an "original etching" by Salvador Dalí (actually a heliogravure). Important autograph signed: To René Crevel, my friend of the great paths of open thought like a titmouse hedge with the exciting heart of life André Breton In the surrealist constellation, René Crevel occupies a special place. Born in 1900, marked by the suicide of his father and a failing health that forced him to long stays in sanatoriums, he is the author of singular books and raging pamphlets. The revolutionary turn of surrealism was to seduce him to the point of becoming one of its most ardent propagators. However, he was to commit suicide in his turn, on June 18, 1935: he had not managed to reconcile Breton with the organizers of the International Writers' Congress - notably Ilya Ehrenbourg, head of the Soviet delegation, whom Breton slapped in the face. He had said: "When I no longer believe in anything, neither in myself nor in anyone else, I will still believe in Breton." We enclose an extremely rare off-the-shelf proof signed by Salvador Dalí's "Original etching". Proof printed on china applied to pearly japan. The print was reserved for the ten copies of the top edition only. Very nice copy.
