André BRETON. Yves Tanguy. - Lot 53
André BRETON. Yves Tanguy. English translation by Bravig Imbs. New York, Pierre Matisse Editions, 1946. In-4, publisher's binding covered with white gauze in blue semi-percal, slipcase. Original bilingual edition, French-English, richly illustrated: first monograph devoted to Yves Tanguy published in the United States. Limited edition of 1,200 copies and a few out of print. One of the first 20 copies on laid paper (handmade paper, nº VII), signed by the author and by the painter, enriched with an original signed etching and a raised drawing by Yves Tanguy. The drawing is dated 1945. On a model by Duchamp, Pierre Matisse has collected all Breton's texts devoted to Yves Tanguy (1900-1955) - one of the purest "dreamers" of Surrealism. His engraved work is limited to 35 pieces. (Wittrock, Yves Tanguy, l'oeuvre gravé, 1976, no. 11 - Schwarz no. 516, p. 784). Very beautiful copy. Designed by Marcel Duchamp, the publisher's binding of the twenty copies of the leading edition is covered with white gauze, which is the case here. Small lack of gauze at the bottom of the spine, as often.
