Pierre COURTHION. Heraldic Vagrancies. Fifteen original etchings by Kurt Seligmann. Paris, Éditions des Chroniques du jour, 1934. Large folio, midnight blue suede, smooth and flat spine entirely covered with silver geometric decoration, blue suede linings and endpapers, entirely untrimmed, double cover preserved, shirt, case (Leroux, 1989). Original edition. Limited edition of 105 copies, five of them out of print : one of the 90 on Rives vellum (#11). 15 large original etchings without text by Kurt Seligmann. Painter and engraver from Basel, Kurt Seligmann (1900-1962) lived in Paris from 1927 to 1939, before going into permanent exile in the United States. He facilitated the arrival in New York of André Breton, even helping the exiled surrealist group financially. Also of Swiss origin - he was born in Geneva - Pierre Courthion (1902-1988) was an art historian and critic: he was responsible for the catalogue of Courbet's paintings and for essays on Bonnard, Soutine, Delacroix, Flemish painting and 20th-century French painting. Very beautiful decorated binding by Georges Leroux.
