Publisher of Robert Desnos, Georges Hugnet (Le Feu au cul, 1943), Henri Michaux and Thirion (Le Grand Ordinaire, 1943), Robert J. Godet (1921-1960) died prematurely in a plane crash in India at the age of 39: L'Age de soleil is his first book as an author. "Godet published two artists' books with illustrations by Picasso during the German Occupation of Paris. L'Âge de soleil was Godet's first book as author, for which Picasso provided a surreal and linear depiction of a woman [...]. This etching was made on 29 April 1944, while France was still occupied; Picasso might have associated its selection with the travauxs that he and Godet endured" (Robert Flynn Johnson).
