George GROSZ. - Lot 127
George GROSZ. Autograph card with original collage. February 26th 1923. Photographic collage with red pencil highlights on postcard, 137 x 88 mm, under glass. Card postmarked February 27, 1923, with the address: "Herrn Brass, Hagen i/W. 18/20 Birkenhain." Autograph card by George Grosz with original collage. On a reproduction of Degas' naked back entitled "Woman combing her hair", the painter glued the head of a woman cut out of a photograph and drew the number 9 in red pencil, using a stencil-like manner. The card was addressed to the art dealer and publisher Friedrich Wilhelm Brass, who was active from 1920 to 1931 in Westphalia. Grosz claims his due, 98000 Deutsche Mark, and promises to send a copy of Ecce Homo (1922- 1923) soon. Lieber Brass! Brief erhalten. Was bedeutet "anbei Mk 98000. ?" Scheck lag nicht dabei. Vielen Dank einstweilen. "Ecce homo" geht nächster Tage ab. Beste Grüsse Ihr George Grosz [Dear Brass, Letter received. What does "Mk 98000 seals" mean? No check enclosed. Many thanks in the meantime. "Ecce homo" will be sent these days. Best regards, yours, George Grosz.]
