Georges HUGNET. - Lot 131
Georges HUGNET. The inside of the ruins looked so undressed... No place or date [1936]. Original photographic collage on paper (323 x 248 mm), under glass, brown wooden frame. Superb original collage: it was reproduced in The Seventh Face of the Die (1936). Famous book illustrated with twenty full-page collages. The publisher, Jeanne Bucher, had given two years earlier Une semaine de bonté, Max Ernst's novel-collage using engravings: Georges Hugnet's use of cut-out photographs gave these "poem-cut-outs" a different scope, in the spirit of the "talking collages" that Marcel Marien was creating at the same time. Expo: The Dada & Surrealist word image (1989), with label of the Los Angeles County Museum. Exhibition subsequently presented at the Wadsworth Antheneum and the Schirnkunsthalle. Label for the exhibition The Poet as an Artist.
