The HOLY BIBLE in French. Lyon, Jacques Foré for Sébastien Honoré, 1558. 2 parts in a large volume in-8 (175 x 113 mm) of 30 ff.n.ch., 1075, 261 pp., 4 ff.n.ch., the last of which is white; fawn calf, dishes entirely decorated with a decoration of brown foliage on a dotted background, central medallion with the inscription "LA SAINTE BIBLE. 1559 ", smooth spine decorated with a roulette wheel repeated 5 times acting as nerves on a background of triple golden dots with fleurons, gilt and embossed edges (binding of the time), preserved in a modern demibasane case. Beautiful Lyon edition of this Bible of which Baudrier cites only two copies including this one. The title is decorated with an elegant woodcut allegorical frame, the text is printed in small characters on two columns. Copy set in a superb Lyon binding of the 16th century with gilt decoration on the dotted lines. No copy in the United States according to USTC. Corner pp. 13 /14 torn out, hole with missing pp.297-300; skillfully restored binding. Provenance: William Poidebard (ex-libris), author of the Armorial des bibliophiles lyonnais.
